Lately I’ve been loving this Creamy Coleslaw recipe that I adapted from Bobby Flay. I love the thick creamy coleslaw dressing and it has the best balance of tangy and sweet. It is the best coleslaw recipe!

My family had a catfish restaurant when I was growing up and one of my jobs was to make the coleslaw. I have made countless large batches of coleslaw. If you aren’t a fan of mayonnaise, try this No Mayo Coleslaw with vinegar dressing.
Coleslaw is one restaurant dish that is made just as easily at home. This creamy coleslaw has just 10 ingredients and comes together in less than 10 minutes. I like to use shredded slaw mix but it’s totally fine to shred your own cabbage and carrots.
If you decide to shred your own cabbage and carrots, you will need about 6 cups of shredded cabbage and 1 cup of shredded carrots for this recipe.
If you are into meal prep, you can shred your cabbage and carrots ahead of time and keep in a zip top bag. The coleslaw dressing is easy to make ahead and keep in a mason jar. Mix together when you are ready to serve.
How to Make Creamy Coleslaw:
For the creamy coleslaw dressing, add mayonnaise, sour cream, white vinegar, sugar and spices to a bowl and whisk together.
Add slaw mix and celery to large bowl and pour coleslaw dressing over the top. Mix until well combined. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
How long will Coleslaw keep?
Coleslaw can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 2 days. Coleslaw dressing can be made ahead and kept in a covered container in the refrigerator a day or two in advance and mixed with slaw mix the day you are serving the coleslaw.
What to serve with coleslaw?
I serve slaw with just about everything I make, our Easy Smoked Brisket, Dr Pepper Barbecue Sloppy Joes, Fried Chicken Strips, and Smoked Spare Ribs, well you get the picture. Everything including these fabulous Loaded Saw Dogs!

Coleslaw is favorite in our family. I make mine pretty much the same way except for using the white vinegar of which I use the brine (pickle juice) either from a jar of Bread & Butter Pickles or brine from jar of dill pickles; all depends on what I have on hand at the time.
Colleen,
Using pickle juice is brilliant! I will give that a try.

When the pickles are gone from the jar, I still save the brine for future use in other ways or use to start another jar of pickles
Yes!! Pickled eggs with layers of onions and beets!!
My favorite cole slaw recipe!!!
It is a great creamy salad recipe to eat more veggies! Thank you for the recipe, I made this last night and my family loved it how creamy it is.
Sounds good, always up for a new coleslaw recipe
Hellmans, Nalley sweet pickle juice and a little sugar is all you need for that slaw mix!
Hi Dana,
That does sound easy and delicious! Thanks for stopping by.

Added 1/2 cup raisins (plumped in hot water, drained) and 1/2 an apple in 1/4 inch chunks, kept in water and lemon juice to prevent browning while prepping, then drained; would have added slivered almonds but didn’t have any. Dressing turned out to be in my estimation better than any of the commercial dressings I’ve tried. So far doesn’t seem to have become watery. This will become my go-to for easy cole slaw. Thank you for putting it on the internet.
So glad you enjoyed it. I’ve never tried adding raisins or almonds, I will have to try that.

I just made this recipe today since I am making some for a fish fry this weekend and wanted to try it out first. :). Love it!
NOTE: I forgot to put the celery in there and it still tastes great!
Hi Judy,
I make it without the celery all the time too. Glad you enjoyed it.
