Cherry Almond Bars
Cherry Almond Bars are an easy dessert bar for any occasion. A simple shortbread crust topped with maraschino cherries, sliced almonds and cream cheese icing! Perfect for everything from potlucks to Christmas parties!
I love dessert bars, they are just so easy to pop in the oven and so easy to take to family get togethers, cookouts and holiday gatherings.
My Lemon Bars with Cream Cheese Icing, Pecan Pie Bars, and Salted Caramel Cookie Bars are always crowd favorites too. We can’t get enough of these Chocolate Toffee Bars for an easy dessert. These old fashioned Date Bars are also a big hit.

These easy Cherry Almond Bars start with a classic shortbread crust topped with simple brown sugar filling with maraschino cherries and sliced almonds. After I baked it, I add cream cheese icing and they just might be my new favorite.
How to Make Cherry Almond Bars:
- Preheat oven to 350°
- Mix flour, sugar and butter together into a crumbly mixture.
- Press into a 9 x 13 baking pan.
- Bake for 20-22 minutes until lightly brown.
- Mix eggs, brown sugar, baking powder, salt and almond extract together.
- Mix in chopped cherries and sliced almonds.
- Pour over baked crust.
- Bake 22-25 minutes.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.
- Mix together cream cheese and powdered sugar.
- Place in a piping bag or zip top bag and pipe icing over bars in a crisscross pattern.
- Cut into squares and serve.

I adapted this recipe from an old Taste of Home holiday magazine that I’ve had for over 10 years. I might be a recipe hoarder.
The original recipe had walnuts and vanilla. I switched those out for almond extract and sliced almonds and added the cream cheese icing.
It’s a great treat for anyone who loves maraschino cherries and makes a pretty dessert for your holiday parties.

- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
