Easy Apple Crisp
Easy Apple Crisp is so simple to make and one of the most loved desserts for any night of the week. Cinnamon and sugar apples baked with a crunchy brown sugar and oat crumble topping. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream for something extra special.
Easy Apple Crisp
This easy dessert is a slight variation on my easy blackberry crisp. I doubled the brown sugar and oat topping because let’s face it, the crispy topping is irresistible! Ingredients Needed
- apples ~ Granny Smith, Gala, Fuji or Honeycrisp
- lemon juice
- brown sugar
- cornstarch
- ground cinnamon
FOR THE TOPPING
- all purpose flour
- brown sugar
- old fashioned oats
- ground cinnamon
- kosher salt
- butter
How to Make Easy Apple Crisp
- Peel and core apples. Cut into bite- sized pieces or slices, which ever you prefer. Place in a pie plate or baking dish. Top with lemon juice.
- Mix brown sugar, cornstarch and ground cinnamon together. Pour over apples and mix together.
- In a large bowl combine flour, oats, brown sugar, ground cinnamon and kosher salt together.
- Cut in 1 stick of butter until totally combined.
- Sprinkle over apple mixture.
- Place pie plate on a rimmed baking sheet and bake for 40-50 minutes or until top is lightly browned and apples are tender. The baking sheet will catch any spills if the apple filling bubbles over.
Fruit crisp is one of my favorite desserts because it’s so easy to make. No pie crust to roll out and you can make it with any fruit you have on hand to make a peach crisp or cherries are great too. It’s always a family favorite with the crispy crumb topping.
- Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream or sweetened whipped cream.
How to Store:
Store apple crisp covered with plastic wrap at room temperature 1 – 2 days. It can be refrigerated up to 4 days. Reheat in microwave or serve at room temperature.
This easy crisp is simple enough to make for a weeknight but totally delicious enough for entertaining.
What kind of apples are best for apple crisp?
I used Granny Smith apples for this recipe. I’ve also made it with Gala or Fuji apples, use your favorite.
This might sound crazy, but if you have zucchini and no apples you can totally make a mock apple crisp with zucchini. Our Zucchini Crisp is every bit as delicious as the apple version!

I love apple crisp. In fact, I would much rather have it instead of cake or pie.
I have added Butterscotch before in with the apples & have also added chopped up pears and / or dried cranberries.
It’s just me & hubby so I normally make in individual serving bowls
Hi Colleen,
Isn’t it just the best? So easy. I love your add- in ideas, adding them to my list to try. Thanks for stopping by.

When do you add the brown sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon mixture? Do you put it over the apples or do you add it to the oat mixture? Thank you in advance.
Hi Debbie,
To the apples, I’ve updated the recipe, thanks for letting me know it was missing.

This was great and easy but I looked over putting the brown sugar in topping will do next time
Hi Brandy,
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’ve done the exact same thing with the brown sugar, it’s definitely better with it.

Aloha, my question is the same as Debbie’s above. Seems like #4 should end with, “toss mixture with apples in baking pan”.
It does look like a simple and sweet yummy recipe— mahalo!

Hi, Do you see any reason NOT to make this inn individual large ramekins? takin dinner (XMAS) to the in-laws.
Hi Brenda,
I am sure it would work just fine. You might need to chop the apples to make them fit better. Hope you enjoy it!

I see the list of ingredients, but where is the measurement of each ingredient? I don’t see it anywhere. Thank you!
Hi Sandy,
The recipe card is at the bottom of the post. You can use the “jump to recipe” button at the very top of the post that will take you right to the recipe card that you can print.
If I’m in a crunch, can I make this the same with Apple pie canned filling??
Hi Melissa,
That will work!

Is there something I can supplement the cornstarch for? or omit entirely?
Hi Katie,
You can use 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour in place of the cornstarch. It helps thicken the apple pie filling, you can skip it but the pie filling will be juicier. I hope that helps.

I’VE USED CHERRY PIE FILLING INSTEAD AND IT WAS SO GOOD YUM 😋 ❤️
Hi Toni,
I will be making that asap! Thanks for sharing.
