Why You Will Love this Easy Pineapple Dump Cake Recipe

  • Family Favorite that is an easy recipe that is perfect for busy weeknights and delicious enough for family gatherings
  • It doesn’t take much time to put together and just uses a few pantry ingredients. I often put it together while I am cooking dinner and pop it in the oven. By the time we are done eating, it is ready to serve with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • This easy dessert bakes up in a 9 x 13 casserole dish or baking pan and doesn’t require any decorating. It’s easy to transport to cookouts and potlucks.
Dump Cake Ingredients: 2 cans crushed pineapple, yellow cake mix, brown sugar, butter, pecans

Ingredients for Dump Cake

  • Crushed Pineapple ~ You will need 2 cans, undrained. Pineapple Chunks will work if that is what you have on hand.
  • Yellow Cake Mix ~ White cake mix works as well or even a spice mix to change things up.
  • Brown Sugar ~ The brown sugar adds a bit of caramelized flavor to this simple dessert, try it!
  • Pecans ~ Use any nuts that you have on hand, I prefer pecans or walnuts.  Chop fine and they add a delicious crunchy texture to the cake. Of course they are optional.
  • Butter ~ Don’t skimp on the butter and please use real butter, no margarine. I like using melted butter, you can also use butter slices on top of the cake mix.

  1. My husband has always loved pineapple upside down cake and I’ve made the Carmel Apple dump cake, so when I saw your pin, I didn’t think twice. I made it once and it was gone in 3 days. Today’s his birthday and has asked for it again. Great flavor, and love the sort of custard that develops. Just delicious.

  2. I sure would like the pineapple and peach dump cake recipes. If you could send them to my email I would appreciate it.

  3. Just made this tonite, I made with pineapple and cherry combo. I used lemon white cake mix and no nuts. Had my daughter over and it was so good I had to show her your recipe. She will make it tomorrow. It was delicious. By the way I am an 88 year old male and just started to learn to cook.

  4. I made your pineapple dump cake this afternoon and it was awesome! I did make a couple of modificafions though. I used one can of crushed pineapple in its own juice. The second can was pineapple pie filling. My husband isn’t fond of nuts so I skipped those, as well as the brown sugar. The main change I made was the use of Duncan Hines/Dolly Parton southern coconut cake mix. So good!

    1. Hi Betty,
I have never tried it with pineapple pie filling but I think it would work just fine because it works with apple pie filling and blackberry pie filling.

  5. I made this with 2 cans of the pineapple chunks with juice. It was great I like the texture of biting into the pieces of pineapple. Used brown sugar and no nuts. It was great.

  7. Out of all the dump cakes I have made this is my favorite one! I do add marichino cherries to the pineapple and toasted coconut to the brown sugar and pecans, so yummy!

i am sad that i did not like the cake. It was way too sweet. 2 cans of pineapple with the juice and brown sugar. Plus the cake ended up mushy. I followed the instructions and even cooked it 1 he and 10 minutes.

Just wanted to leave my opinion in case someone is making it for those who like natural pineapple because 2 cans maybe too sweet for them.

So happy I found this recipe! I did make a couple changes and it’s in the oven now, so fingers crossed it comes out awesome. I used vanilla sugar free cake mix (homemade with splenda), no sugar added pineapple, splenda brown sugar and mixed it with the chopped pecans. Hubby is type2 Diabetic so I need to find awesome recipes like yours and give it a sugarfree twist, lol. Thank you 😍

    1. Hi Linda,
You can wrap the cake pan in towels to help insulated it or if where you are going has an oven, reheat it, covered with foil for about 10- 15 minutes at about 325°. I hope this helps.
