Honey Garlic Meatballs
Honey Garlic Meatballs are a quick and delicious meal for any night of the week. Ground beef meatballs can be grilled or oven baked and then tossed with a tasty honey garlic sauce that is made with just a few pantry ingredients.
We were craving meatball hoagies but were out of hoagie buns, so we came up with these honey garlic meatballs to serve over rice. A flavorful and delicious meal that the entire family loved.
Ingredients Needed:
for the meatballs:
- Ground Beef: We used 80/20, which will cook up nice and juicy without shrinking too much.
- Steak Rub: My favorite all-purpose beef seasoning. Any all purpose seasoning mix will work.
- Egg: Helps bind the meatballs.
- Old Fashioned Oats: Adds a bit of texture and helps bind the meatballs.
for the honey garlic sauce:
- Butter: salted butter
- Garlic: fresh garlic, minced
- Honey: use local honey if available.
- Brown Sugar: Helps thicken the sauce and adds sweetness.
- Apple Cider Vinegar: Adds tangy flavor to the sauce and balances out the sweetness.
- Smoked Paprika: Adds a smoky kick.
- Kosher Salt: For flavor.
- Ground Chili Flakes: Or cayenne for a spicy kick.
- Fresh Parsley: For garnish.
How to Make Honey Garlic Meatballs:
- In a large bowl add the ground beef, steak rub, egg and oats. Mix with a wooden spoon or with your hands until well combined.
- Use a 1 inch scoop to form into meatballs.
- To grill meatballs: Cook over indirect fire at 325° for 12- 15 minutes or until meatballs reach 165° using a digital meat thermometer.
- Oven method: Bake meatballs in a preheated 375° oven for 15- 20 minutes until internal temperatures reach 165°.
- Meanwhile make the sauce: Melt butter in a pan with minced garlic and cook over medium heat about 5 minutes.
- Add honey, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, salt and ground chili flakes.
- Whisk together and cook another 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- When meatballs are cooked through, return the sauce to medium heat and stir in the meatballs. Cook 1- 2 minutes, stirring to coat the meatballs.
Serve meatballs over rice pilaf, fried rice or with pasta. Garnish with parsley if desired. Add a side of Broccoli with Toasted Walnuts and cornbread muffins for a complete meal.
Recipe Notes:
- Yield: 4 Servings
- Storage: Store meatballs in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days. Freeze cooked meatballs in a freezer container up to 3 months. Store sauce in an airtight container up to 2 weeks.
- Reheat: Reheat meatballs in sauce over medium heat in a pan, stirring until heated through.
