Fresh Fig & Honey Compote
Fresh Fig and Honey Compote is the best way to enjoy fresh figs. It comes together so easy and you can enjoy it on everything from toast to ice cream!
Fresh Fig and Honey Compote
Fresh figs are very hard to come by in my neck of the woods. So when my sister-in-law gave me a few, I was pretty excited to cook up something wonderful.
I was looking for some jelly or jam and apparently we are out. I am out of a lot of things, but I had fresh figs, go figure.
Jam doesn’t seem like something I could throw together while trying to balance my checkbook, so I decided to try my hand at a compote.
Honestly, I had never made a compote or even eaten a compote, it seemed a little more like something off of Top Chef rather than what normally comes out of my kitchen. But it was really simple, and totally delicious.
Of course the kids thought I was making pig compost, not fig compote. That’s okay, more for me!
Anyhow, I spread a little on my whole wheat toast and I am dying to try it over vanilla ice cream, or maybe I will just stand at the counter and eat it with a spoon. Yes it is that good.

Is the 8 ounces of figs a half pound or one cup?
Do you need to allow the compote to cool before placing in the fridge?
Hi Laura,
I would cool it to room temperature first.

This recipe is absolutely delicious!! I shared it with two friends who gave glowing reviews and quickly took figs from my trees and made their own from your website recipe! I used organic honey and pure Finlandia butter and increased the cinnamon!
Thank you for such a healthy treat made with my July figs! Infact, I am eating some on an English muffin as I type!
Hi Lynda,
This makes my day. I am so envious that you have a fig tree! I have not been able to get fresh figs in forever.

Hoping this tightens up as it is a syrup at this point. Very good flavor, however. Followed the directions as written for three times the amount.
Is this recipe suitable for canning? I wasn’t sure since there is butter which can be perishable without refrigeration. What if the butter is omitted?
Hi Darlene,
I think if you left out the butter, it would be fine to can, but I haven’t tried it.
