Blackberry Crumble is a tasty fruit dessert made with fresh or frozen blackberries and a buttery crumb topping that is so crunchy and delicious.

Blackberry Crisp is one of my favorites for an easy summer dessert. This recipe is a slight variation that skips the oats in the topping to make a fruit crumble that is so easy to make.

Ingredients for blackberry crumble.
  • Blackberries – fresh or frozen will work for this dessert.
  • Orange Juice – lemon juice or lime juice can be substituted.
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Corn Starch
  • Ground Cinnamon

For the Crumble

  • All Purpose Flour
  • Brown Sugar
  • Fine Sea Salt
  • Butter – room temperature

Step-By-Step Directions for Blackberry Crumble Recipe

  1. Wash the Berries: Add blackberries to a bowl and cover with cold water. Add about a tablespoon of vinegar and set aside for about 5 minutes. Drain the berries and rinse in cold water, draining well.

  1. Make the Crumble: In a mixing bowl, add flour, brown sugar, salt and butter. Mix together using the tips of your fingers or with a large tined fork until crumbly.

  1. Assembly: Place blackberries into a baking dish with the orange juice, granulated sugar, corn starch and cinnamon. Mix well.
  2. Add the Topping: Sprinkle crumble mixture over the top of the berries in an even layer.
  3. Bake: Place the baking dish into a preheated oven and bake for 45- 50 minutes or until crumble is golden brown and berries are starting to bubble.

  1. Cool: Remove from oven and cool about 15 minutes before serving.

  1. Topping: Serve with sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.

  • 36 ounces blackberries fresh or frozen (washed)
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

For the Crumb Topping

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 3/4 cup butter room temperature
  • 2 cups Sweetened Whipped Cream optional for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Place blackberries into an 11 x 7 inch baking dish with orange juice, granulated sugar, corn starch and cinnamon. Stir to combine.
  • In mixing bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, salt and butter using your finger tips or a large tined fork until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle crumble over the blackberries in an even layer.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until crumble is golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and cool 15 minutes before serving.
