Chocolate Chip Caramel Bars
Chocolate Chip Caramel Bars have the best chewy texture and are the perfect combination of sweet and salty with gooey caramel sauce. A great dessert for any occasion and super easy to bake and share.
Cookie bars are my favorite when I am short on time and craving my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and these salted caramel chocolate chip cookie bars are the perfect sweet treat for bake sales, holidays or potlucks.
Ingredients Needed
- Butter – Room temperature, salted butter or unsalted butter is fine in this recipe, use what you have on hand.
- Brown Sugar – Use dark brown sugar or light brown sugar, which ever you have on hand.
- Granulated Sugar
- Large Eggs
- Vanilla Extract
- All Purpose Flour
- Baking Soda
- Sea Salt
- Chocolate Chips – I use semi-sweet chocolate chips and milk chocolate chips work great also.
- Pecans – Toasted and chopped coarsely.
- Caramel Sauce – Dulce de Leche or caramel ice cream topping works great.
- Flaked Sea Salt – Optional for garnish.
Step-By-Step Directions for Chocolate Chip Caramel Bars Recipe
- Cream butter until smooth in a large mixer bowl.
- Add brown sugar and granulated sugar and mix for 2 minutes at medium speed.
- Add eggs and vanilla and mix until combined.
- Add flour, baking soda and salt and mix well.
- Add chocolate chips and chopped pecans, mixing at low speed for 1 minute.
- Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
- Press chocolate chip cookie dough into the bottom of the pan in an even layer.
- Drizzle caramel sauce over the top and swirl with a butter knife, cutting the caramel into the top of the cookie dough.
- Bake for 45 minutes to 55 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven to a wire rack. Sprinkle with sea salt flakes if desired.
- Cool completely before slicing into squares.

- Storage: Store cookie bars in an airtight container or covered in plastic wrap at room temperature up to 5 days. Freeze up to 3 months.
- Variations: Use any flavor of chips for this recipe that you have on hand or a combination of chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, caramel chips or peanut butter chips.
